Kabbalah Wisdom:
Enlightening Quotations of Jewish Mysticism

Many people will ask - what exactly is "Kabbalah wisdom?"

The word "Kabbalah" literally means "receiving." It refers to a set of Jewish esoteric beliefs and practices which revolve around the traditional Jewish interpretations of the Torah.

In essence, it is the study of the inner meanings of the Torah. It is said that with the intimate understanding and mastery of the Kabbalah, it can bring one spiritually closer to God and will enrich one's experience of Jewish sacred texts and law.

Originally, this secret knowledge was transmitted orally by the Jewish Patriarchs, prophets, and sages. Eventually, it was written down and interwoven into the Jewish religious writings and its culture.

In a nut shell, this is what the Kabbalah is all about; studying the enlightening meanings woven by Jewish mysticism and esoteric beliefs into ancient texts. You will also often find variations in the spelling of Kabbalah, such as: Cabala, Kabbala, Qabalah, etc.

Below, you will find several quotations of Kabbalah wisdom. They are wise words which should be studied and contemplated.

Brush Up on Your Kabbalah Wisdom

If I am not to myself - who is? And when I am for myself - what am I? And if not now, then when?

Meaning: It is important to be yourself. If you try to behave in the fashion that someone else wants, you will drive yourself crazy, because EVERYONE wants you to be what they believe you should be. Examine your own life, get to know your own values and beliefs, then live your life for yourself. You can not please everyone, so please yourself... and start today, because when else will you do it?

He who criticizes testifies to his own vice.

Meaning: When you criticize someone else, you are criticizing a portion of yourself that you do not like. You can not recognize in another, what you yourself have not experienced or know of. It is much like the saying: "When you point a finger at someone, you have three fingers pointing back at you."

A person cannot live on bread alone.

Meaning: Materialistic items are fine, but they will not help your personal and spiritual growth. You need a balance in life, just as you need to eat balanced meals to stay healthy.

In the ears of a fool do not speak for he will scorn the wisdom of your words.

Meaning: Not everyone is ready to hear helpful advice or even the truth about their own personalities and behaviors. You need to carefully evaluate whether the person you are speaking with will welcome your comments, or throw them back in your face in anger or in scorn. If so, then nothing will be accomplished except for hurt or abrasive feelings.

One should remove a log of wood off his own eyes before removing a toothpick off his friend's teeth.

Meaning: Before sticking your nose into your friend's minor problems or criticizing their behavior, clean up and resolve your own problems first, for they are just as likely to be criticized.
