Frost was a famous and popular American poet, and the recipient of 4 Pulitzer Awards. He frequently wrote about rural life in New England.

Mary Herbert, Countess of Pembroke (née Mary Sidney) was one of the first English women to achieve a major reputation for her literary works, translations and literary patronage.

Raleigh led an interesting life. He took part in the suppression of rebellions and participated in two famous massacres at Rathlin Island and Smerwick. He rose rapidly in Queen Elizabeth I's favour and was knighted in 1585. In 1591 he secretly married Elizabeth Throckmorton, one of the Queen's ladies-in-waiting, without requesting the Queen's permission, for which he and his wife were sent to the Tower of London. After his release they retired to his estate at Sherborne, Dorset. Raleigh was again imprisoned in the Tower after Elizabeth's death, this time for alleged treason against King James, and released in 1616. He was eventually he was beheaded at the Tower of London.
