Aesop Fable - Belling The Cat, The Mice In Council
The Mice summoned a council to decide how they might best devise some sort of signal to so they may be aware of the approach of their great enemy the Cat. Among the many plans devised, the one that found most favor was the proposal to tie a bell to the neck of the Cat. In this way, the Mice, being warned by the sound of the tinkling, would be able to run away and hide themselves in their holes at his approach. But when the Mice further debated who among them should attempt to "bell the Cat," there was no one willing to tackle the task. Moral of The Mice in Council: Let those who propose be willing to perform. This Aesop Fable - Belling the Cat - brings home the fact that if you propose to do something, then be prepared to be the one to do it... and to be sure it's not impossible to accomplish. It's easy to state an idea (especially if you have no intention of following through yourself) - but not always so easy to accomplish it. Previous Tale: The Wind and the Sun |
